Synonyms: capacitors condenser condensers

Subtag of component · 2 child tags

Anything related to capacitors (also known in the past as condensers).

A capacitor is a 2-terminal passive electrical component that exploits the properties of electric fields created by electrical charge accumulation on conductor surfaces.

A common example of capacitor is a couple of parallel metallic sheets separated by an insulator.

The term condenser is no longer used (it was still commonly in use around the '60 of the 20th century), but it can still appear in old literature and in some peculiar applications (like condenser microphones).

TERMINOLOGY NOTE: Although the term condenser is considered obsolete in English, there are other languages where the literal translation of the English term "condenser" is the current and correct name of capacitors, e.g. Italian condensatore, German Kondensator and French condensateur. This is important to avoid wrong translations to and from technical English.
