Anything about bootloaders, a special kind of firmware used on microcontrollers (MCUs).

A bootloader is a piece of software that resides in a special memory area of the MCU's program memory. It's purpose is to allow in-circuit reprogramming of the MCU without complex programming hardware. A MCU with a bootloader can be programmed simply using a PC connected to the MCU board using a simple serial interface and a suitable loader software running on PC side.
