Subtag of field-effect-transistor

Anything related to MOSFETs (a.k.a. IGFETs) semiconductor devices, a particular type of field effect transistor.

They come in two varieties, N-channel and P-channel, whose behavior is specular wrt. the polarities of currents and voltages. There are also two subtypes, enhancement MOSFETs and depletion MOSFETs.
Tag Wiki

MOSFET stands for Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor FET (Field Effect Transistor).

As all FETs, they come in two varieties, N-channel and P-channel, which in the case of MOSFETs are also abbreviated as NMOS and PMOS. That is, NMOS/PMOS is short for "N/P-channel MOSFET".

MOS refers to the layered internal structure of the device, where a layer of metal is separated by a layer of oxide from the semiconductor beneath.

Actually today that's a sort of misnomer since most MOSFETs use a different structure, where the metal is replaced by polysilicon.

A more correct term for this device is IGFET, which means Insulated-Gate FET. However the term MOSFET has stuck and few people know or use the more pedantically correct term IGFET.

There are two subtypes of MOSFETS: enhancement-mode MOSFETs (or simply enhancement MOSFETs) and depletion-mode MOSFETs (or simply depletion MOSFETs), named after their mode of operation.

NOTE: despite their name, depletion MOSFETs can also be operated in enhancement-mode.

For various reasons (also market-driven) enhancement MOSFETs represent the majority of MOSFETs around, at least as discrete components.
