Getting rid of "company tags" early on

I just made a post about using "company tags" over at Software Development:
We know from SO that company name tags were always problematic since:
- Questions are about products, not companies.
- Given that the product tag is present, the company tag doesn't add any relevant information to the question.
- These aren't technical tags and they are also ambiguous.
- Companies tend to change name quite often.
I cross-post here, since I think this problem is even more serious for an electronics site, given how often silicon companies change names and merge (take Atmel, LT, Freescale, NEC... and so on). A tag like "Atmel" or "Microchip" doesn't add anything, it should be AVR, PIC etc product/technology tags instead.
So I propose that we make a policy against using company tags and that moderators & veteran users keep an eye open for such tags and replace them with product tags.
