Considering that the same manufacturer has models specifically for plated holes too, it probably matters.

One thing that I noticed in looking around is that the models for unplated holes have a knurled collar, whereas the ones for plated were hexagonal there.

My guess is that the knurling is meant to bite into the fiberglass for a good grip, whereas the edges of the hex shape are meant to make a gas-tight contact with the fillet in the hole without breaking it.  The higher give of fiberglass versus the metal lining in a plated hole probably also has some bearing on the diameter spec these devices are meant for.

However, the best answer is to ask the manufacturer.  They appear to be in NY state, and their phone number is listed at the bottom of datasheets.
