It's pretty much just a direct substitute for the other 555 chip.

Obviously you need to take care not to overload the other parts when you increase the supply voltage.

The new part's 5Mhz max means it should be able to go about 5 times faster than the NE555 (which topped out at about 1MHz)

There's not really a family,  555 is more a user interface standard than a lineage.
