  • Yes, votes on meta should not factor into rep. Meta downvotes indicate agreement or disagreement, not that you're a terrible person, have the IQ of a garden slug, and cast dispersions on your heritage like they do on the main site ;-)
  • Users should be free to express their opinions, whether popular or not, as long as that's done respectfully and constructively. One shouldn't lose rep for expressing a dissenting opinion. Conversely, gaining rep just for expressing popular opinions doesn't make sense either. Rep should be a measure of how much you've contributed positive content to the site.
