Proposed clean-up of bad tags
I propose that we get rid of a lot of bad tags that should never have been created. I went through them all and this is what I think we should get rid of or rename. I'll leave this meta post here for a week or so for feedback, before I go ahead and edit out tags that nobody got any objections about removing. (Or if a moderator can help out with that without "mass bumping" all posts, that would be nice. I don't think I can rename or make tag synonyms either.) Too broad/non-specific/ambiguous: --- - [accuracy](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/4614) - [component-characterization](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/7691) - [computer](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/8621) - [computer-arithmetic](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/3055) - [control](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/4711) - [count](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/4463) - [equipment](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/8961) - [errors](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/2969) - [integrator](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/7290) - [limitation](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/8382) - [module](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/2901) - [network](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/6178) - [noise](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/4412) - Ambiguous since it could mean EMI, or signal processing noise, or audible noise. Should probably be removed and split into the existing tags `EMI`, `signal-processing` and `audio`. - [ORing](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/7654) - Confusing if this is about the slang "OR:ing" as in Boolean algebra or O-ring as in a type of seal. Neither makes a good tag, use specific tags like "OR-gate" (digital electronics), "logical-or" (programming) or "bitwise-or" (programming). - [output](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/2970) - [packaging](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/7496) - Could either refer to component packages (SOT23, TO220 etc) or packing material that components use (tape & reel, tray etc). Could perhaps be renamed `package` to be less ambiguous. - [programming](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/2955) - About as meaningful as having an "electronics" tag. - [protocol](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/6177) - [quality](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/2903) - [reliability](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/2902) - [switching](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/4024) - Could refer to switch regulators, or power switching on/off, or electrical switching (transistors, analog switches, relays, optocouplers etc), or electro-mechanical switches, or switching things in programming/general. Too specific/limited use: --- (Kindly practice **DNI TLA** - Do Not Invent: Three-letter Abbreviations) - [1-wire](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/8250) - Name the programming interface or MCU instead. Different 1-wire interfaces have little in common. - [AC-circuit](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/6392) - Use `alternating-current` instead. - [analog-computer](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/7699) - Limited use, go with something like `Analog` instead. - [cd4047](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/7302) - I don't think we need a tag for every standard IC. - [DC-generator](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/7293) - Use `current-source` instead. - [DMM](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/7649) - Use `multimeter` instead. - [ICMR](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/8307) - Use `opamp`, `Analog` or similar tag. - [OCMR](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/8309) - Use `opamp`, `Analog` or similar tag. - [OTA](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/5650) - Use `opamp` instead. - [signal-and-systems](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/7268) - Not a common term AFAIK, covered by the more well-known term `signal-processing`. - [stray-current-corrosion](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/7155) - The `corrosion` tag should be enough. - [UART-USART](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/7732) - Just use `UART` instead. - [UVLO](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/6826) - Supposedly means undervoltage lockout. Personally never came across the term (even though I've been involved in battery charger design). More common terms are brown-out protection, low-voltage detection. Off-topic/application level/use of electronic products: --- - [HiFi](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/8085) - Use the `audio` tag instead. - [pH](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/6935) - Chemistry term. - [remote-control](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/7736) To be renamed/synonymous: --- - [awgn](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/78439) - Shouldn't we rather have a broader category `gaussian-noise`? Or just use `signal-processing`. - [cmc](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/8372) - Should be made synonymous with [common-mode-choke](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/5864). - [li-ion-cell](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/5279) - Tags per battery chemistry makes perfect sense, so this should just be renamed to `li-ion`. (And it would be fine IMO to create other similar tags as needed, like lead-acid, NiMH, Li-Po, Li-Fe4, NiCd etc.) - [Ohm-law](https://electrical.codidact.com/categories/26/tags/7726) - Any reason why this isn't named `Ohms-law`? I realize that `'` might not be supported inside tags.
