Safe handling of residue from old consumer batteries [closed]

I was going through some old batteries to test if they still work, and discovered the hard way that one or two of them had ruptured or leaked, leaving a considerable amount of white stuff on the negative terminals. This was in a pile of AAs (batteries of other types that I found all look fine) that all seem to be alkaline. There's also some white powder randomly on other batteries that tested fine but may have been adjacent while in storage.

I don't seem to have any signs of chemical burns or other serious issues (and I put on gloves once I noticed the problem), but now some flakes have dropped onto nearby surfaces and may have gotten on my clothing.

How should I safely clean up from this? And do I need to worry about e.g. heavy metal exposure or other long-term issues from having inadvertently touched the stuff?

Here's a PSDS (safety datasheet) for Panasonic alkaline batteries.

"GHS classification: not applicable" means that it isn't classified as hazardous. If you look at the ingredients, there are no terrible heavy metals like cadmium, lead, mercury.
