Anything related to DC-DC conversion and the circuits used to do it (DC-DC converters).

DC-DC conversion refers to the process of converting the power of a DC voltage source to a different constant voltage. If the resulting voltage is higher we speak of step-up conversion, if it's lower we speak of step-down conversion.
Tag Wiki

According to the type of DC-DC conversion it performs, a DC-DC converter can be a:

  • step-up converter, a.k.a. boost converter, if it steps the voltage up;

  • step-down converter, a.k.a. buck converter, if it steps the voltage down;

  • step-up/down converter, if it can step the voltage both up or down. Such a converter is also known as a buck-boost converter, although this latter name usage is imprecise, since "buck/boost" denotes a particular topology of step-up/down converters among the several existing (SEPIC converter, Cuk converter, Zeta converter).

Q&A Why do DC/DC switching controllers seem to favour the buck-boost topology over similar ones like Cuk, SEPIC and Zeta?

I am looking at various DC/DC converter topologies for a power system I am designing. The most suitable topology for me is one that can perform both step-up and step-down functions, so I am looking...
