Matched transistors

There are circuits that require matched transistors. Whether BJTs or FETs.
Like current mirrors, logarithmic amplifiers, etc.. There are some examples:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QY48IQXJIRI

So I need matched transistors (multiple transistors inside one package). But I'm not sure whether datasheet must include magic word "matched", or basically any package with multiple transistors can be used?

For example this transistor is mentioned in one of those circuits:
PMP5201Y
but I have other dual-transistors like this:
BC857BDW
it doesn't mention they are matched.

I was expecting that:

  1. basically every dual or quad transistors are on the same die
  2. they are the same in terms of construction and therefore matched

Are these my assumptions wrong? Or there are some differences between "general purpose" and "matched" dual-transistors?

If you're looking at smth like BC857, you can use the matched pair version BCM847/857 and their immediate relatives. So cheap there's little reason not to use the matched-pair version as a common building block whenever you need a bipolar transistor anyway.

I actually went through searching. BCM847 costs like 0.15€ and has hFE matching around 0.90 (so 10% tolerance). But I found better part IMHO, DMMT3904W and DMMT3906W, they cost 0.04€, and have hFE matching 0.98 (so 2% tolerance).

Great. Not trying to sell you on the BC's in particular. FWIW, the max mismatch in V_be would interest me more than the current-gain matching, usually. Other differences: compared to the 3904/3906, the BC847B/BC857B's have more LF gain and lower F_T.
