Q&A What reactance actually is?

I saw that equation of reactance is written like this $$I=\frac{V}{|R+X_L j|}$$ $$I=\frac{V}{|R-X_c j|}$$ When there's capacitor and inductor in a single circuit then it is written like : $$I=\...

  • While watching a video in YouTube (not in English so not adding it here) I heard that there's reactance for capacitor, impedance and inductor/inductance.
  • He wrote relation between them and electrical flow like this :
  • $$I=\frac{V}{|R+X_L j|}$$
  • where $j$ is imaginary number, we use $i$ but he said that not for confusion "we" in electrical engineering write $j$ rather than $i$.
  • $$I=\frac{V}{|R-X_c j|}$$
  • $$I=\frac{V}{Z}$$
  • >Capacitor accumulate energy.
  • > From understanding of impedance is, when there's capacitor and inductor together then obstacle of electrical flow is called impedance $Z=\sqrt{R^2+(X_L-X_C)^2}$
  • >Inductance is just something like resistor which work for AC supplies not DC.

  • Where $Z$ represents impedance. But here we used different equation for the same "term (reactance)", they are actually called capacitive reactance and inductive reactance. Do we use the "reactance" term just to represent obstacle of electrical flow just like resistance? If not, than what is reactance?

What reactance actually is?
While watching a video in YouTube (not in English so not adding it here) I heard that there's reactance for capacitor, impedance and inductor/inductance.

He wrote relation between them and electrical flow like this :

$$I=\frac{V}{|R+X_L j|}$$
where $j$ is imaginary number, we use $i$ but he said that not for confusion "we" in electrical engineering write $j$ rather than $i$.

$$I=\frac{V}{|R-X_c j|}$$
$$I=\frac{V}{Z}$$
>Capacitor accumulate energy.

> From understanding of impedance is, when there's capacitor and inductor together then obstacle of electrical flow is called impedance $Z=\sqrt{R^2+(X_L-X_C)^2}$
