To be fair, I _did_ include "ADC" in the text. I completely agree with your frustration with popups; the web isn't nearly as friendly as it used to be. I've had some issues with Analog/Linear/Maxim datasheet links breaking because of all the acquisitions and mergers. I thought it best to link to the ... (more) |

I added direct links to the datasheets. We can probably ignore the AD74413R, which is a DAC that's sourcing 4-20 mA for the control loop. The feedback loop is driven by 5V (left side of schematic 1) through the 200 Ω and out `PREG_N` where the pressure regulator sinks it. On the other side, `IIN1_DP`... (more) |

The link is the official Analog product page. I opened it in a new browser session and the pop-up is one of those annoying "cookies settings" BS things that all the web sites are doing these days. Suffice to say, for the purposes of this question, the IC isn't that important, I probably should have e... (more) |

Question | — |
How can I fix this 4-20 mA current loop to source current that matches current sink on its input? Building on a previous question about terminology, I am trying to arrive at a solution to connect a digital air pressure regulator that sinks current as part of its 4-20 mA current feedback loop to an ADC that also sinks current. Block Diagram: Block Diagram The pressure regulator has two ... (more) |

I definitely could have been more clear. You've answered my main question by explaining that current mirrors are a subcategory of current-controlled current sources. All the detail about the pressure regulator was my not-so-great attempt to provide context, but I think it muddied the waters a bit. I ... (more) |

Question | — |
Is a current-dependent current source and a current mirror the same thing? I have a 4-20 mA digital air pressure regulator which is controlled by and reports its pressure by being the current sink in two independent 4-20 mA current loops. Our control system utilizes Analog Devices AD4111 ADC which itself sinks current. I've ran into numerous roadblocks in trying to de... (more) |
