Synonyms: photodiodes PIN-diode

Subtag of semiconductor-diode

Anything about photodiodes, a particular type of semiconductor diode sensible to light radiation.

Photodiodes are used as detectors and sensors for IR, visible and UV radiation. They are usually based on a PN-junction structure or a PIN-structure.

A common application is at the receiving end of an IR communication link, like the one established by a TV remote control. The photodiode acts as a photoelectric transducer, converting the IR pulses transmitted by the remote into electrical signals that the TV set can interpret as commands.
