Should posting on Meta affect reputation?

When we launched this community, we did not yet have the ability to set different reputation grants for different categories. We've had this for a while but we failed to follow up before now, sorry.

Do you want us to change posts on Meta to not award rep for upvotes or subtract it for downvotes? This change would be retroactive, though not immediately -- the next time a certain custodial script runs, reputation levels would be adjusted to remove rep gained from Meta.

(It does feel a little odd to me that I have 300 rep on EE when I don't know a thing about the topic.)

Yes, votes on meta should not factor into rep. Meta downvotes indicate disagreement, not that you're a terrible person, have the IQ of a garden slug, and cast dispersions on your heritage like they do on the main site ;-)

Users should be free to express their opinions, whether popular or not, as long as that's done respectfully and constructively. One shouldn't lose rep for expressing a dissenting opinion. Conversely, gaining rep just for expressing popular opinions doesn't make sense either. Rep should be a measure of how much you've contributed positive content to the site.
