Synonyms: serial-peripheral-interface MISO

Anything about the SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface) standard hardware interface and its protocols.

SPI is a high-speed serial interface designed to interconnect chips on the same board and is one of the interfaces commonly found in microcontrollers.

Note that SPI is a de-facto standard which is only partially specified, so there is quite a lot of variability between interfaces that claim to be SPI-compliant.

Introduction to SPI Interface (by Analog Devices) (also on PDF).

Interface signal names: 1

  • SCLK = Serial CLocK
  • MISO = Master-In, Slave-Out
  • MOSI = Master-Out, Slave-In
  • CS = Chip Select
  1. The original technical terms "master" and "slave" are considered not politically correct by some people, so these acronyms were backronymed by replacing those terms with the words Main and Sub (or Subnode) respectively.

Q&A Why do large RAM chips not have a serial interface?

I have a PIC32MZ2048ECG064, a 64-pin 32-bit microcontroller with 512kB RAM. This is not enough for my purposes, I need to extend it by at least 32MB, preferably 64 or 128. I believe this means I ca...
