Answer A: Should we have a sub-forum for less structured, forum-style discussions?
Here are some ideas and relevant factors about the platform. I'm not expressing an opinion and am not voting (not being a core EE member), just offering suggestions about what is feasible. As already noted, the Q&A category is for more focused, answerable questions. Codidact's categories are int...

Comment Post #290774 Sorry @#52935 - as I hinted at, I was conflicted about which was the better place to post this, and since it was more "how does it work?" rather than "what can I do about it?" (for which the answer is pretty clear), I went for the EE. It's answered here and we don't have migrations even if we wanted...

Comment Post #290785 Thanks for this analysis. I bought that UPS in a hurry because its predecessor had died, and I didn't yet know to be more skeptical. It has powered my computer + monitor for 10-15 minutes during actual power outages, so at least it isn't complete fraud, but yeah, I'm going to look for something bet...

Comment Post #290774 We get actual power outages lasting more than a few minutes about 4-5 times per year, and light flickers probably twice that often. The UPS is a generic [Amazon Basics model](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073Q3BSPG/?th=1).

Comment Post #290776 Thanks for this explanation. I think what you're saying happened to me (no light flickers or other visible signs of even a brief outage) is that I got hit with a voltage change that was outside the UPS's narrow band, so it tried to switch to battery, but the battery wasn't up to the task so the compu...

Question Why would a standby UPS fail to power devices when there's no power outage?
I have an ordinary consumer-grade standby UPS with, I believe, ample power for the devices connected to it.[^1] It's five years old. For the second time in about a month, I've found my computer powered off and the UPS apparently without power (indicator light was off). Both times, I pressed the po...

Answer A: How to request a mass-change in capitalization for tags?
Following a lot of discussion in comments, we're going to split this request: - Capitalization changes: these were previously discussed and we'll make these changes for you. We can do this at the tag level; there's no need to edit posts individually. - Other renamings and deletions: there is a...

Comment Post #289348 I see the frustration in your comments, and I understand -- we all want things to be better, you're doing a lot of good work, and there was prior discussion. I think we're seeing a little scope drift -- totally natural given the scale of the work! -- and maybe we need to divide and conquer. The ear...

Comment Post #289392 The difference would be outlining, like the proposal tags on Proposals. We already have support for that; we'd just need to add the reviews tag to a list.

Comment Post #289392 The review tag can be given a different visual presentation if that helps, and the text at the top of the Q&A category can be edited to mention/link to reviews. Would either or both of those changes help?

Question Should posting on Meta affect reputation?
When we launched this community, we did not yet have the ability to set different reputation grants for different categories. We've had this for a while but we failed to follow up before now, sorry. Do you want us to change posts on Meta to not award rep for upvotes or subtract it for downvotes? ...

Comment Post #286470 Our aim _is_ to run Codidact for the communities that use them, both regulars and visitors. (Every regular was once a visitor; we need to draw people in.) I'm having trouble understanding how threaded comments make people feel unwelcome. And if people have answers to questions, we want to give the...

Answer A: Wish to have comment votes
We've resisted adding voting to comments because, to be fair, you have to have votes in both directions and that starts to get cluttered, but I also recognize the need for an efficient "me too". Nobody wants to read a bunch of comments saying "I agree with so-and-so", after all, but people want to b...

Answer A: Code formatting appears to be broken
Code highlighting, like Mathjax, incurs a small penalty on page rendering, so we don't turn it on by default. The question hadn't come up before on EE, so it was off. I've just turned it on.

Comment Post #285892 New users now do not get Participate Everywhere. That's a good question about seeing who has an ability; we don't have any way in the UI to do that, but we should. Meanwhile, please ask in the private mod chat so someone with the right access can look it up for you. Thanks.

Comment Post #285892 The ability to vote other than on answers to your own questions comes with the Participate Everywhere ability. In order to earn that ability, you have to have several well-received (score > 0.5) posts. (The difficulty is configurable; see below.) We don't use rep for abilities but, rather, your ac...
